Ship Calculations

Our ship agency experience, advanced IT capabilities, local knowledge and 24/7 service mean that we have access to the latest information on all port costs and charges that vessel owners and charterers are likely to incur at ports throughout the UK.

Detailed vessel and cargo information enable us to provide customers with an accurate calculation of all port costs including any local restrictions (draft, tide, lock) before fixture of a vessel’s voyage. This means our customers can effectively predict and manage their costs without having to worry about unexpected hidden charges.

Lay-time Calculations

Laytime is the time, determined by the charterer, allowed for loading and discharging cargo. The laytime is defined in the voyage charter and is critical as delays associated with the voyage are borne exclusively by the shipowner.

Demurrage Calculations

If delays occur during loading or discharge, the charterer must pay the owner a demurrage fee. If loading and discharge are completed early, the shipowner pays the charterer a fee called “despatch.”

Port Disbursements

Port disbursements are the costs associated with an individual vessel’s call at a given port. These costs vary from port to port and for each vessel and generally depend on cargo type and vessel dimensions. There are many different factors in determining the costs for a vessel’s port call.
